St. Francis Monk Sculpture

This sculpture of St. Francis of Assisi suffered a horrible fall, causing it to shatter into several pieces. The worst damage was to the head and hands, so we knew delicate work would be required to restore this sculpture to its former state.

The first step was to glue the pieces back together; unfortunately, several pieces had never been recovered, so there were gaps in the head that needed to be filled and several fingers that needed to be remade. The reconstructed pieces were then painted to match the original sculpture. Finally, a new wooden base was constructed and attached to stabilize the sculpture against future falls.

The final product is stable and ready for continued display, while still retaining the sculpture's original, timeworn character. What a fun piece!
